I found this a compelling example of how a simplified version of Spiral Dynamics can be applied effective communication of climate-friendly behaviour.
I find Wilber’s principle of Enactment useful here. Essentially people with different world-views not only see different worlds but that their worlds really are different for them as they are in some sense co-created by the perception.
My MSc dissertation “Climate Change Communication: Applying Integral Theory” (http://homepages.phonecoop.coop/julianbriggs/msc/dissertation.pdf)
applies an Integral analysis to Al Gore’s film “Inconvenient Truth” drawing on Barrett Brown’s work on Integral Sustainability. I conclude that Gore’s highly skilled communication hits many “Hot Buttons” (compelling arguments, stories, images, visions) for many world-views (Spiral Dynamics levels) and (mostly) avoids hitting “Cold-Buttons” for any of them.

“That means that the phenomena brought forth by various types of human inquiry will be different depending on the quadrants, levels, lines, states, and types of the subjects bringing forth the phenomena. This does not mean that the phenomena are not objectively there in a meaningful sense; it means the phenomena are not there for everybody. Macbeth exists, but not for my dog. Cells with DNA exist, but they can only be seen by subjects using microscopes (which did not exist until the orange wave, which is why cells did not “ex-ist” or stand out for magic and mythic worldviews; you can find no account of DNA in any magic or mythic text. This does not mean DNA wasn’t there, just that it did not “ex-ist” in those worldviews). Nirvana exists, but not for a dualistic state of consciousness, and so on. Phenomena ex-ist, stand forth, or shine only for subjects who can enact and co-create them (or, more technically, only as they are tetra-enacted). ”
